Misty - 1990 Acura Integra

Misty is a 1990 Acura Integra on the outside, but has a 1996 Integra GSR for a drivetrain. At first, she looked like she wasn't worth what her last owner was asking. But, I noticed many aftermarket parts that would prove to make this a fun car. There still is a lot of work to do on the car, but it sure is quick. Here are some of the updates that she came with:

  • MSD Ignition
  • Headers and Exhaust
  • Cold air intake
  • Coil over springs

Unfortunately, all of these upgrades have also led to some problems that must be dealt with - some sooner than others.

  • Replace cap and rotor - the original install of the external coil left a very poor connection into the distributor cap. The post that the cable would connect to was malshaped which made it very difficult to hold a connection. Also, the internal modifications made to accept the connection were rusted very badly; it was a miracle the car even ran. The new, pre-modified distributer cap from MSD came with good connections specifically designed for an external coil.
  • The cold-air intake came with breather holes to accomodate supplying filtered air to the crankase. However, these holse were not connected to anything or capped. Some electrical tape should work fine to prevent dirt from entering the engine.
  • Completely blown shocks on a recently aquired vehicle always lead to a fun time. The ride was pretty bad, not just because the car is sitting far too low on the adjustable springs, but the front left shock had expelled all of its fluid - rendering it useless. Now, I have new, adjustable shocks for the front, and the entire bushings in the back needed replacing with the shocks.
