Sunday School
Taught by Jeff Slocum
Introduction

In one sentence, in my project I will be a Sunday School Teacher.
I think this will be a great way to experience many of the things that
teachers in weeklong public schools. I
realize that the subject matter will be different, but this will still provide
the same concept of teaching something to a group of young individuals. My Sunday School, being held only on Sundays, will allow me
time to reflect on my class for portions of an entire week while I prepare for
the next Sunday’s class.
One of my goals
for this project is to find out what things make the class interesting for
children. Since I will be working
primarily with the third and fourth graders, most of what I find out will be
about them. I will try working with
games and interactive lessons with worksheets and other tools like those.
Additionally, I should find out how a teacher sets up a lesson plan for
the day.
What flow will be
most effective? Should I start with
something quiet or energetic? These
are questions I hope to answer as I teach.
On one hand it will make the class easier to handle if they do not become
too hyped up by the beginning of class. In
the same respect, it may be no good to have the children sitting lifeless in
their chairs for the first half of class. Class arrangement is another thing that I wrote about in my
paper, that I’d like to see in real life.
My thoughts for
the arrangement of a class of Sunday School Children is tables where the
children can work close to each other. I
need to make sure when I organize, that the teacher (Me) can pass out supplies
easily, without making it so not all the children can pay attention without
problems. This should not cause any
real problems.
I think that this
project will be a very fun project. I’ve
heard that it is really a great experience to work with children.
This will give me a good opportunity to work with a nice group of
children on a regular basis.
